social responsibility, partners with artisans to create

modern pieces using traditional fabrics and craftsmanship.

lately i've seen head wraps [for fashion purposes]
worn everywhere. prints and patterns, wrapped
elaborately, but to me she was an original.
from a distance i spotted the hot pink fabric
twisted above the crown of her head and down
around her neck, and when i got closer she was
even more stunning- a natural beauty.
it was a simple reminder that sometimes
less is more.

CB2/paper mag store bash

if you don't know CB2, please get to know them. it's
crate and barrel's little sister for city dwellers
(ie: apts, lofts, brownstones etc). along with paper
magazine they celebrated its second store opening in nyc
[58th & 3rd ave] with random guest appearances from DMC
(from Run DMC of course)to maggie gyllenhaal.

the best part- they partnered with new design high school
and gave students an opportunity to work with street style photographers backyard bill, eddie newton and street peeper
[who are all great by the way].

halloween: cheap thrills

i was a new york city rat last halloween.
(mask + brown poncho + accidental red chipped nails).
it was cheap and cheerful. when i came across these masks on j.crew's blog
it completely reminded me of this. just download, color them, et voila!
you've got a costume.

and something told me to go into wilson's the leather store...
and on the sales rack was this hidden gem- a butter soft leather T,
marked way down to $50! then viola, its on Celine's Spring '12 runway.

my marc jacobs booties which make the perfect snow
boot because they have a lug sole- great traction for
the crazy ice skating rink that is nyc pavement.

I later switched to my most recent eBay purchase, my
black & white cap-toe chanel shoes! someone asked "did
you were those outside?" of course not, but dressing for
spring underneath my winter coat gives me hope.

kerchief tips

*place the scarf in triangular form over your hair and tie at the base of the neck.

*leave about 2 inches of hair exposed from the hair line.

*tucking your ears a bit beneath the scarf is optional [like the sophia loren photo],
that's usually how i prefer to wear it.

*silk scarves have a tendency to slide back, so i use goody's cute miniature gold
bobby pins to pin behind the ears.

*shop your local thrift shop or salvation army, they usually have a ton of beautiful
inexpensive scarves.

we all know that nail polishes are not created equal, even after you've
spent your time and money at the salon they still manage to chip
[i smartened up and now do them myself] but
deborah lippmann polish has this weird staying power that makes it worth
shelling out what may seem a pricey 18 bucks for some nail paint.

the cherry on top are the fun shades like this glittery "ruby red
slipper" a cool alternative to your typical french red [it has a black base!].
and if this shade doesn't work, you can always opt for a "bad romance" with
a darker Gaga-inspired plum.

i thought i'd walked into an estate jewelry sale yesterday- nope,
it was yet another lia sophia red carpet collection designed by
nylon magazine style director dani stahl- how she manages to design collection after
collection in between shoots? i have no clue,
but very happy that she has it figured out, cause i'm in love.

the new collection la belle rose II had all the women in the room
shamelessly drooling over the table of baubles trying everything on
from crystal-dripped chandelier earrings, to gaudy ivanka trump style
bracelets.[don't be afraid ladies- it's all costume jewelry, so you
too can drown in jewels].

tina kalivas is no freshman
to fashion but she definitely has a fresh perspective. she works
with a community of afghani's on her creations. i absolutely love
this embroidered bra- the colors, patterns, everything about it.

i just received this MAC mailer featuring their pro longwear lustre lip
colour and i am loving it. the only way i can think to describe it is
chocolate covered cherries. it's a range of deep burgundy's with a creamy
brown undertone [very '90s]. i saw this color all over the runways
[ysl, marc jacobs] for spring, which is more refreshing than your typical nude.

Timberland hosted an editor's outting on governors island filled with food,
planting, and biking (i now want one of those old school townie bikes in grey),
to launch their new "Earthkeepers" eco-conscious shoe collection. my favorite-
a dessert storm-style boot (above)in that classic timberland tan. i have visions
of wearing with rolled up overalls, and maybe one of those monochromatic jansport
back packs the guys were wearing (I discovered a little backpack trend throughout
the trip which you'll see in my next post). anyway, if you haven't visited the
island by now, please do, they're having an art fair until the end of september.

i can't seem to keep up with all of target's collabos these days, which is why
(on a fun saturday morning trip) i ran into the clothing and shoes section and
stumbled upon these baby's. dolce vita for target studded oxfords for $29.99,
super cute (even has a cushioned sole!).

my thing is- if you're going to go trendy might as well make it cheap and cheerful,
since chances are you'll be over studs by next season. let's be real here.

filled with eclectic creatives who are beautiful both inside and
out [so it isn't entirely vain]. and they of course gather the
beautiful people, along with drinks & music [the amazing gossip band]
to celebrate [their beautifullness i presume]. fun times!

i pulled out a few of my vintage pumps since they're perfect
to run around the city in [compared to some of my other
5 inch platforms which have seen a couple ankle twist and falls
down steps]...

the second and last set belonged to my friend's super stylish mom,
who by the looks of her wardrobe & shoes was a hot mamma. the second
and third shoes are from beacon's closet. i'll be wearing all of these
with rolled up jeans throughout spring. can't wait.

most people call flat round toe shoes ballet flats, but they don't come close
to real ballet slippers...

light, airy, delicate [and they fold up in even the
smallest clutch if you need to change out of heels after a long night out].
these are my spring/summer staples in black and pink. just make sure to leap
over puddles.

last night was the debut of cole haan's ad campaign "the inspired life"
at a cute place called 10 downing around west 4th,
and of course all of the fashion folks came out. nicola vassell,
and harley vera-newton [featured above] were two of the seven
featured in the ad which you can check out here.

cole haan has really stepped it up for spring-
amazing sartorial styles for men [which i'd wear in a heart beat],
leather sandal boots and vintage-y booties for ladies, that i'm
in love with. i want them all. who would've thought?

the shoe company has paired up with fashion photographer
todd selby [aka "the selby"] and gathered a group of creatives-
gallery director nicola vassell, DJ harley viera-newton, designer
james bond and a few others, to capture them in their every-day
lives, calling it "the inspired life." i like how that sounds.
